ROUND DIAMOND:

This classic diamond shape is most popular for diamond engagement rings. The cut arrangement and proportions of the round diamond are based on the 57-facet design (58, if the culet is flattened) established in 1919 by diamond cutter Marcel Tolkowsky. Today, round diamond cut is graded based on proportions and diamond quality standards established by the American Gem Society Laboratories (AGSL).
