How to Use the Calculator

Our free precious metal calculator estimates the melt value of gold, silver, and platinum using the selected market price, weight, and purity. Whether you're buying jewelry, selling scrap gold, or simply curious about today's metal values, the tool provides instant estimates.

  1. Check market prices — Current spot-price data loads automatically and is refreshed several times per day. Enter a custom price per troy ounce at any time.
  2. Enter the weight — Type the weight in grams, troy ounces, pennyweight, or kilograms.
  3. Read the results — Instantly see the estimated value for each supported karat and purity level.

Understanding Gold Karats

Gold purity is measured in karats (K). Pure gold is 24K. Lower karat values indicate gold alloyed with other metals for durability:

  • 24K — 99.9% pure, softest and most valuable per gram
  • 22K — 91.7% pure, popular for fine jewelry and coins
  • 18K — 75.0% pure, widely used in fine and luxury jewelry
  • 14K — 58.3% pure, a popular choice for everyday jewelry in the U.S.
  • 10K — 41.7% pure, a durable, lower-gold option commonly sold in the U.S.

Why Metal Prices Matter for Jewelry

Precious-metal costs are one factor in the price of fine jewelry. At 25karats, we monitor metal-market rates when pricing wedding bands, engagement rings, and custom jewelry.

  • Factory-direct pricing — without traditional middleman markups
  • Prices adjusted periodically for metal-market changes
  • Free shipping on U.S. orders
  • Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects; conditions apply

Frequently Asked Questions

The gold price per gram is calculated by dividing the spot price per troy ounce by 31.1035 (grams per troy ounce) to get the 24K price per gram. For other karats, multiply by the purity fraction: 22K = 22/24, 18K = 18/24, 14K = 14/24, and 10K = 10/24. For example, if gold is $4,000/oz, the 14K price per gram would be ($4,000 ÷ 31.1035) × (14/24) = ~$75.02/gram.

Our calculator fetches current spot-price data from market data providers. Prices are refreshed several times per day. You can click "Reset to Market Prices" to restore the latest available market data, or manually enter a custom price per troy ounce.

A troy ounce (31.1035 grams) is heavier than a standard avoirdupois ounce (28.3495 grams). Precious-metal spot prices are commonly quoted per troy ounce. This calculator uses troy ounces for its market-price inputs and conversions.

14K gold balances purity, durability, and value. At 58.3% pure gold, it's durable enough for everyday wear while maintaining a beautiful gold color. It's also more affordable than 18K or 22K gold, making it a popular choice for wedding bands and engagement rings in the U.S.

Yes. Enter the metal's weight and either the displayed spot price or a custom pure-metal price per troy ounce. The calculator will estimate the melt value for each supported karat. Actual dealer offers may be lower because of refining costs, operating costs, and dealer margins.
