Natural vs. Lab Grown Diamonds

The Distinction Is Not What You Expect

When comparing natural diamonds with lab grown diamonds, one typically considers their place of origin. However, after spending so much time working with both types of diamonds, we have found another aspect to consider. It is less important where your diamond was produced; what really matters is how wisely you chose your stone.

A natural diamond chosen without attention can never be as magnificent as a masterfully cut lab grown diamond, and vice versa – no matter how spectacular its origin is, a lab diamond can never seem extraordinary if its light performance is poor. Ultimately, both types are authentic diamonds.

Their structure, color, hardness, and ability to reflect light are identical. They both offer excellent durability and shine when properly chosen and set. The first distinction lies in their formation process.

Natural Diamonds

Unlike lab diamonds, natural diamonds are created by nature. Formed by immense heat and pressure thousands of miles underground, they each contain unique characteristics that make them rare and exclusive. Many customers find these aspects appealing, which contributes to their popularity.

Another element that makes natural diamonds distinct is their sentimental value. The history behind each piece is what some consumers love about natural diamonds.

Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab grown diamonds are formed in a high-tech environment through processes that replicate the natural environment where diamonds are formed. The diamonds are structurally and visually identical to natural diamonds except for their much quicker formation, taking only a few weeks instead of millions of years.

For certain couples, the benefit lies in the practicality. Others like the idea behind them. There are those who wish to have bigger diamonds within their budgets. And none of those are lesser reasons to choose lab grown diamonds.

So Which One Is Better?

Neither.

Here is the thing; most of us don’t really fancy a diamond because of where it came from. We fancy it because of how beautiful it is and what it means to us.

This is why we treat both equally at 25karats. For us it is proportion, light performance, balance, and craft. Natural or lab grown, diamonds must seem to come alive with light and fit perfectly into the setting of the diamond.
