Conflict-Free Diamond

Jewelry Definition

Conflict-Free Diamond

A conflict-free diamond is a diamond that has been sourced, mined, and traded in an ethical manner, ensuring it has not financed violence, human rights abuses, or warfare.

The term gained prominence with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme established in 2003 to prevent 'blood diamonds' from entering the legitimate diamond trade. Reputable jewelers source diamonds only from countries and suppliers that adhere to international standards for ethical mining and trading practices.

Today's consumers increasingly prioritize conflict-free certification when purchasing diamonds. Most diamonds sold in the United States and other developed countries are certified conflict-free, with detailed documentation tracing their origin and supply chain.
