Celtic Wedding Bands for Men

Celtic patterns live or die on how deeply they are cut. A shallow pattern blurs within a few years of daily wear and ends up as vague texture on a plain band. A properly cut one keeps its shadow lines, because the depth of the recess is what makes the interlace read as over and under rather than as a scratch.

The knots, and what they are

The trinity knot, or triquetra, is three interlocked arcs drawn from a single unbroken line and is the most common motif here. The Dara knot is a denser root pattern with more crossings per inch, so it needs more width to stay legible. The Claddagh is not a knot at all: two hands holding a crowned heart, and the one design in this collection with a fixed orientation on the finger. Interwoven chain, weave and braided patterns run continuously around the band with no start point.

Handcrafted rather than cast

Many of these bands are hand woven or hand carved rather than cast from a mold. A cast band can carry microscopic porosity that shows up years later as tiny pits along a carved edge; worked metal is denser and holds a cut line better. It also means the interlace is cut into solid metal, so the pattern goes deep rather than sitting as a raised skin.

Contrast, width and metal

Some designs use a black inlay in the recesses so the interlace reads from across a room rather than at arm's length. On the rest, the contrast comes from a sandblasted or satin field against polished raised lines. Knotwork needs room: 7mm and above is where a repeat completes cleanly, and this collection runs to 10mm and beyond. Available in 10K, 14K and 18K gold, in platinum, with engraving inside included.
