Hand Engraved Matching Wedding Bands
Hand engraving is the difference between a pattern that sits on the surface and one that is cut into it. A graver removes metal at an angle, and that angle is what creates the bright cut: the tiny mirrored facet inside each line that catches light and gives hand work its depth. Machine etched and laser marked bands can copy the shape of a pattern but not that quality of light, and they wear flat far sooner.
Patterns We Cut
Floral and leaf motifs, scroll and vine work, wheat and rope patterns, fine grooving, geometric Art Deco lines, and milgrain beading along the edges. On a matching set the usual approach is to run one pattern across both rings and redraw it at each width. A motif that looks right on a 7mm band is often too heavy at 3mm, so we redraw rather than shrink it, which is the difference between a pair that matches and a pair that merely resembles each other.
How It Wears
Because the pattern is cut rather than applied, it cannot chip, peel or wear off the way plating does, and the depth means it stays legible for decades. If the high points do soften after many years of daily wear, the band can be re-cut and re-finished rather than replaced. That is one of the advantages of buying from the workshop that made it.
Metals
Available in 10K, 14K and 18K white, yellow and rose gold, two tone, and platinum. Yellow gold shows engraving with the most warmth, platinum holds the sharpest edges, and white gold gives the highest contrast between cut and surface.
