A braided band is structure rather than decoration: strands of gold woven over and under one another, then finished into a ring, so the pattern runs through the band instead of sitting on its surface. Woven, and what that buys you

Most designs are woven by hand from individual strands rather than cast in one piece. Worked metal is denser than cast, holds its edges longer, and makes each band minutely unique. The weave also survives refinishing indefinitely, because the pattern is the band: there is no engraved layer to polish away.

One color or three

The single braids in one color of gold are the quietest version, a texture you notice at close range. Two and three color weaves, white with yellow, white with rose, or all three in a tri-tone braid, turn the structure into the design, and reversing the combination against a partner's wider braid is the classic way to pair rings without matching them exactly.
