Jump Ring
A jump ring is a small circular or oval metal loop used to connect jewelry components, such as attaching a pendant to a chain or joining chain sections.
Jump rings come in various sizes and metals, and can be soldered closed for permanent connections or left open for adjustable connections. Quality jump rings should be thick enough to maintain their shape and properly sized for the weight and size of the jewelry components they're connecting.
When using open jump rings, twist them open sideways (not pulling the ends apart) to maintain the circle shape, add the component, then twist closed. For necklaces and bracelets holding valuable pendants, soldered jump rings provide extra security against opening.
