White Sapphire

Jewelry Definition

White Sapphire

A white sapphire is a colorless variety of corundum (the same mineral as blue sapphires and rubies) sometimes used as a diamond alternative in jewelry.

White sapphires are natural gemstones that lack the trace elements that create color in other sapphires. They rank 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, making them very durable for everyday wear. However, they have significantly less brilliance and fire than diamonds due to their lower refractive index and lack of dispersion.

While white sapphires are a budget-friendly option compared to diamonds, they don't sparkle as intensely and can appear cloudy or dull in certain lighting. They require regular cleaning to maintain their appearance and work best in bezel or halo settings that maximize their presence.
