Diamond Wedding Bands for Men

The question on a men's diamond band is never how much stone it carries. It is whether the setting will still be intact in ten years of ordinary use, which comes down to how far the diamonds sit below the surface of the metal.

Channel setting, and why it dominates here

In a channel setting the stones sit in a groove between two continuous walls of metal, with nothing protruding above the surface of the band. There are no prongs to catch on a pocket, snag a glove or bend back, and the walls take the abrasion instead of the stones. It is the setting we recommend to anyone who works with their hands, and most of the diamond bands on this page use it, including the step edge variants where the channel is recessed below a raised shoulder for extra protection.

Flush, pave and the alternatives

A flush or burnished setting drops each stone into its own seat and rolls the surrounding metal over the girdle, leaving the band completely smooth. It is the most durable option and the most discreet. Pave covers more surface with small stones held by tiny beads and gives the brightest face, but those beads are the part that wears, so it suits a ring that comes off for manual work. Bezel and milgrain edged settings sit between the two.

Choosing width and metal

Most of this collection is 6mm to 8mm, which is enough width to run a channel down the center and still leave a solid shoulder either side. Below 5mm the channel starts to define the whole ring. Platinum holds a channel wall more securely than gold over decades because it displaces rather than wears away, which is why it is worth the weight on a stone set band: the trade-offs are in gold versus platinum. Every stone we set is certified conflict free, and engraving inside the band is included.
