Brushed Finish

Jewelry Definition

Brushed Finish

A brushed finish, also called satin or matte finish, is created by scratching the metal surface in one direction with a fine abrasive, producing a subtle, non-reflective texture with a soft sheen.

This sophisticated finish is popular in men's wedding bands and contemporary jewelry designs, offering a modern alternative to high-polish finishes. The unidirectional scratching creates a subtle linear pattern that diffuses light rather than reflecting it. Brushed finishes can be horizontal, vertical, or circular.

Brushed finishes are relatively low maintenance and help hide minor scratches that occur with daily wear. They can be easily refreshed by a jeweler if the texture becomes worn over time.
